Polyphony -
directed by Michael Fields, is a Wadhurst choir, formed in 1990 with the
aim of performing a wide repertoire of choral music, ' from Bach to Beatles'
. We meet every Friday evening during term-time,
from 20:00 until 22:00, in a private home. We are accompanied, at every practice,
by a pianist.
Around 20 singers give 3 concerts a year, usually in the Parish Church, often with soloists and accompanied either by keyboard, strings or orchestra. We have recorded 5 live CDs. We perform at least twice a year in Wadhurst Church in the summer and at Christmas time. In addition, we have, for several years, hosted a very genial supper party. in a private home. Members of the choir perform both by singing and the spoken word. We have also performed at numerous other functions, on request.
Our latest concert Wassail to"Joyeux Noël", POLYPHONY's annual Christmas concert, has a subtle French flavour this year. The main work will be the "Midnight Mass" by Charpentier, a tuneful, joyful piece, which is being revisited by popular demand. The choir will be directed by Michael Fields and accompanied by an orchestra playing Baroque instruments for this unique masterpiece. Alongside this, there will be the usual selection of familiar Christmas carols from near and far, including another popular French item, Berlioz' "Shepherd's Farewell".
The concert will be held in Wadhurst Parish Church on Thursday, 17 December at 20:00 and tickets will be on sale at Carillon Cottage in advance or on the door before the concert, priced at £10 (or £5 for children under 16). A donation from the proceeds will be made to Hospice in the Weald. Do put this date in your diaries and come along and join us - we look forward to seeing you!
